domestic fail(ure)

Ok. Confession time. I am the most un-domestic housewife ever. Not even sure if that is a word, but it should be. And it should be my middle name.

I've made no secret of the fact that I cannot cook. It's ridiculous how lacking I am in culinary skills. I actually have almost zero desire to even step near the kitchen.

I copy down recipes all the time that I would love to try. Or I read about how you guys menu plan and think "I could totally do that". Did I mention I also don't grocery shop? So those recipes? Couldn't even tell you where they end up.

Well I've decided to give this domestic diva thing one more shot. I'm not going nuts and saying I'll have a meal waiting on the hubs every nite, but maybe I'll start cooking once a week or so. What I need from you ladies is good, quick, EASY (stress that!!) recipes that you use. And if you got any inspiration laying around, well, pass some of that this way to please!! I figure Mr. Perfect deserves one nite a week off from the kitchen huh?! Thanks in advance!

Good for you! I think that the one meal a week thing is a good starting point. I never used to like cooking either, but I've slowly come around :-) I'll email you some of my faves.

Try sliced Ham and Potatoes. You just throw the Ham in a skillet and fry it, and instant mashed potatoes can't get much easier. Add some frozen or canned veggies, and toss some rolls in the oven and your good to go. Its no chef prepared meal, but its a hearty dinner and my husband has never complained ;)

I still need more quick and easy recipes too! Do you have a crockpot? You just dump everything in (frozen chicken, love that!), cream cheese towards the end, use a couple forks to pull the chicken apart, throw it over some pasta=)

and if you don't like mushrooms, use could use cream of chicken soup and we throw some veggies in too, frozen broccoli works great (if you like broccoli=)). Let us know if you find a great recipe!

Hey, it's okay if you don't cook. Who says housewives have to cook? =P But if you have to cook - PASTA! so safe and easy, right?

I love to cook, but I know most people do not have the time for a lot of my recipes. Reply back so I can email you some of my favorite (and most requested) really easy recipes.

Also, try a cooking class with your hubby. It's lots of fun and a great date idea...

Great post....I'll have to come back later and read your readers comments..I'm in the same boat sweetie!
I mean well...but, NO "Betty Crocker" here...I'm real simply.
My husband is NOT a big eater so it's hard to get all excited over food in our household.
He eats ONE stinkin' meal a day!
I love food, but cooking like that for one...nah!
I'll check back! LOl!! :)

It's so hard to be motivated to cook and clean after working all day! All I want to do is relax on the couch :)

As soon as I'm done with my wedding recaps on my blog, I'm totally going to start a recipe swap once a week. I need new ideas!

Good Luck! My favorite recipe (not like I have many myself) is Mushroom Chicken! Thomas loves it! All you do is:

Set your crock pot on low and put 6 chicken tenders, 1 package of Lipton dry onion soup, 1 medium sized container of sour cream, and 1 can of cream of mushroom soup. I use low sodium and low fat and it is still just as good. You just cook it on low all day (like 7to 8 hours) and then serve it over rice or noodles. We do egg noodles with ours and it is fantastic. Super easy and full of flavor.

I know what you mean. I have completely been slacking in the kitchen. And I like to cook! But the whole getting home late, going for a run and THEN cooking really isn't working out for me. I wish my husband would cook for me on the nights I don't cook..that would be awesome!!

I am glad you root for the right team! Go Dawgs!

I don't cook at all...so you are not alone! In fact, going to the grocery store has been known to cause panic attacks. Literally, my husband has to put me in a non-crowded spot in the store, shop around and then come back to get me when he is done.

As for those recipes, I find them so my husband can cook them! I do make tacos but that's the extent of my kitchen doings! And the look and texture of raw chicken makes me gag so I can't even be in the kitchen when the husband is making chicken! My family's southern cooking gene skipped me...no doubt!

i have 3 favorite go-to dishes that are quick and easy but here is by far the quickest - less than 15 minutes from start to finish

spicy honey thighs

combine 2 tsp. garlic powder, 2 tsp. chili powder, 1 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. ground cumin, 1 tsp. paprika and 1/2 tsp. ground red pepper in a large bowl. add 8 skinless, boneless chicken thighs to the bowl and toss to coat.

spray broiler pan with cooking spray. place chicken on pan and broil in preheated broiler for 5 minutes on each side.

combine 6 tbsp. honey with 2 tsp. of cider vinegar in a small bowl and stir well. remove chicken from over, brush chicken with honey mixture. broil 1 minute. remove chicken and turn over. brush with honey mixture and broil 1 more minute or until done.
