9 month check-up

Remind me to never schedule a doctor's appointment on the same day that we make a five hour car ride ever again. Please.

Baby Girl had her nine month well check this afternoon. She'll be ten months old on Wednesday. Oops.

This was also her first visit to her new doctor up here in South Carolina. She sure made a lasting impression.

We left Savannah this morning at about 6:30, after a night where BG and I were up every hour from 10-3:30 am until I finally went and slept on the floor next to her pack-n-play. Finally, we drifted off to sleep a little after four, just to get up at 5:30. Good times.

Once we were in the car, she napped pretty much the entire way home. We stopped just outside of Columbia for some fresh air and a diaper change and then made it the rest of the way. She was literally only awake for about a half hour of the entire 5 hour trip.

Making up for all of the sleeping she didn't do in Savannah, but that's another post.

We got home about 11:30 or so and got some lunch. No sooner had I gotten her dressed after lunch than she started rubbing those little eyes again. Boo.

Once we got to the doc's office, she had fallen asleep on the ride and was not happy about being woken up. Who could blame her though? The girl was over being in the car, not sleeping, and just not being home.

I was kind of right there with her.

We made our way through the humongous medical facility out here and found our ped's office. He came recommended to us through friends of friends so I was hoping for a great appointment. I was not at all disappointed in the wait time as we maybe sat in the waiting room for 15 minutes. Way different than the two hours we would wait back home.

Once we got back to the back, we had to answer a few new patient questions about the little one. I loved our nurse (even though she kept calling my child "juicy". What does that even mean?! Fruit is juicy, not babies!), and she was very impressed with where BG is developmentally. After a few rounds of questions, we stripped the little down and took her off for some measurements.

BG is currently weighing 23.7 pounds, 28 3/4 inches long, and head circumference of 18.8. I'm not quite buying the height as I've measured her multiple times at home and gotten longer, but who knows. Based on those measurements, she's in the 90th percentile for weight, and 75th for height. She seems to be slowing down a bit on the growing thing. Maybe.

After the nurse got all of her measurements, they had to prick her finger to run a blood count to check for anemia and all that jazz. I held her for it, and it was awful. :(

For her too.

She was fine after the prick until the nurse started squeezing and then she lost it. I'm talking inconsolable, crocodile tears, red faced, snot dripping, just plain upset. She stayed like that after we got back to our room and was not having any attempt to calm down.

Until the Puffs that is. She's clearly food motivated.

I got her calmed down right in time for the doctor to come in. She just sat on my lap and watched him as he asked questions about our pregnancy(ies), her birth, and how she's been doing up until now. After that it was time for him to look at her.

She was fine til he peeked in her ears and then it was over. She did not stop crying until he left the room. Which he told me was actually normal for this age and made me feel a bit better. He told me that two year olds could be heard crying all the way out to the highway. Maybe not true, but I felt better. Lovely stranger anxiety.

Does this look like a happy face to you?!

All in all, she's doing excellent. She's actually a bit ahead of where she "should" be which is great. He was very impressed with the fact that she's already taking her "milk" out of her sippy cup and with how much she moves. I'm just glad he didn't tell us to go find a new doctor after the way she acted.

Sigh..

Seriously, note to self; no more appointments on road trip days at nap time.

What a sad face! At least she did great until the Dr came in =) That is always a plus! CB started crying today whenever I touched her at the dentist, she was perfect until then. I guess I just put her in a bad mood? haha.

Awww! Poor BG and mama :( At least you've found a ped you like, that's good! I cannot believe that you used to wait for 2 hours?! With a baby! That's crazy.

Poor little girl. I feel her pain. I hate the doctor. I am 27 and still want to cry when I'm there!

Glad she's a healthy girl, though :)

I haven't heard of anyone calling a baby juicy...very interesting. I'm so sad that she got her finger pricked. Layla always hated that. Hayden didn't even flinch, but Layla lost her mind....so sad to see our babies cry.
