my kind of day.

Today was a good day.

Baby Girl and I got up this morning and headed into town for a playdate with some other stay at home mom's in the area. More on that later. But after that, we came home, she took a two hour nap, and I was able to do some reading and some laundry and just relax for five minutes.

Well, two hours, because that's how long she slept. Love her.

When she woke up, we went on a "tour" of the front yard. We played in the grass, picked flowers, looked at trees; we stayed out there as long as we could until the hundred degree heat was too much to take.

I sat on the porch with her for a while as she laughed and carried on pointing out every single speck of dirt in front of our door. Every car that drove by got a pointed finger. Everything in the yard that moved got a "dada". My heart was bursting with love.

We went inside where she sat and played with her doll for a while while I just watched her. I marveled over everything she's picked up from watching me. How she pats her baby on the back, rocks it, hugs it. Just loves it.

The other day I got a comment on Facebook on one of the millions of pictures I have up of BG. It was a comment on how cute she's always dressed. I got this big 'ol grin on my face, because yea, I take pride in how cute I try to dress her. She's like my little doll and I love it.

But as I watched her, it hit me. This? This introducing her to the world; this teaching her to be kind and loving. This is what's important.

I get so caught up in what's not important sometimes. My focus gets shifted and my priorities take a hit. Every now and then, I need this kind of day to remind me what it's all about. She's it. Nurturing her, teaching her, and raising her to be a great woman of God is what's important.

She's never going to remember what I dressed her in. Heck, she's never going to remember our tour of the front yard. But she will remember what I teach her. This little girl will be on her own in the great, big world one day. It's my job to make sure her sweet soul and big heart are ready to take it on.

I love this post so much! Instantly I was catapulted back to baby mode, remembering how the day was a set routine and how nap time was my only "me" time. Watching them play and soaking them up was such a blessing. You are an amazing mama. The moments when we pause and see what really matters are just as remarkable as the lessons that we are teaching. I kid you not, every moment that I have had, like the one that you have described, is burnt into my mind. I look back on these memories with so much love, sentiment and joy.

Good job mama.

I LOVE the picture where she is looking right at the camera, she is just beautiful! She changes so fast, just like Sarah! We've been so busy, hopefully that will change pretty soon.

Amen, sister. So true. She really is so cute, though. Those cheeks are to die for.

Well, she does always look super cute! I know that I don't remember the front yard tours with my mom, but, I love having the pictures to look back on and think about what a sweet moment that must have been for my mom--assuming of course I didn't have a meltdown five seconds later--I was a dramatic child. BG will look back on these pictures one day and she'll be so grateful for a mama like you!

Amazing pictures! And very very true. Our daughter is 10 years old now and to hear the things I've taught her repeated back to me is amazing! Now if I can do as good of a job with the twins, I'll feel very blessed.

Aw, I just adore those days. I know you've had a rough patch lately, and I'm so glad you got a good day. Happy times with baby + 2 hour nap = the good stuff.

And I think the high fashion sense - and yes, you do always have your little miss looking fabulous - is just part of the nurturing process; at least, that's what I tell myself as I review my AmEx bill each month. I agree it isn't what ultimately matters, of course, but there's something about the careful selection of the outfit every day that feels like part of the mothering thing to me.

Hold on for a second, WHEN did she become so grown up? I've been MIA from blogging for a week or so, but holy crap, she looks like a little girl!! Her hair is getting so long! She is gorgeous!
