birthday week: pre-party fun

Having BG's first birthday four and a half hours away was not easy. But we wanted to have it back home where most of her friends and family were. I don't know that we'll do that again... It just had all of us thrown off schedule by not being at our house and in our beds, but it's just the way it worked out this year. We haven't been here long enough to really build any relationships so home we went.

We headed to Savannah after Mr. P got off work on Thursday. The plan was that BG would just sleep the whole way down there so we wouldn't have to stop much.

Ha. BG saw our plan and then did everything she could to wreck it.

It was kind of my fault. I was a basket case trying to get out of here making sure that we had everything; decorations, food, clothes, it was a mess. I was also bummed out because the slideshow I had been working on FOREVER, just wasn't going to happen.

Boo.

Eventually I figured out that I was stressing EVERYONE out by worrying about the slideshow, so I gave up and we left. BG slept til about Columbia but then she was wide open the rest of the way. Between her and her Dad trying to sleep the whole way (grrrr), my nerves were shot by the time we got to Savannah. So I let her run around and play with her great-grandparents while we waited on Nonny and Pops to get in from Maryland. Once they got there and she said her hellos, she went to bed with minimal fuss. Thank goodness.

Friday morning, someone woke up raring and ready to go EARLY.

Which was good because Mr. P and I had a lot of stuff that we needed to get done for the party on Sunday.

We spent most of Friday doing some last minute touches for the party; making poms, putting labels on water bottles, and getting some of the food started. BG was an awesome helper.

Some of the time.

I finally managed to get BG dressed and her, my Mom, and I went to run a few errands while my Dad worked on some party stuff, and Mr. P and Grandma took a nap. We ran by Kyndal's house for a bit to let BG play with some of her old buddies and then hit up Target and Party City for a few last minute things.

When we got home, we hung out around the house for a bit before heading out to dinner for some food and live music.

Saturday was a pretty low key day in that most of the party prep was done. I received the packages I was waiting for while we were out to dinner, so we unpacked those and hung some of the decorations. I highly recommend spreading out the work to do over a couple of days if you can. I was pretty low key and very non-stressed the day of the party which is abnormal for me, but was SO nice. Also, I had a ton of help which was key.

I dressed BG up in the dress I wore on my first birthday for some pictures. It's basically a top on her. She is a BIG girl. I love it!

BG spent the evening hanging out with her great-grandparents, great-aunt, and grandparents while Mr. P and I went to grab sushi with Uncle Marine and some friends.
It was so nice having everyone in town to celebrate my little babe.

The next day, BG was up bright and early again.. and good thing since it was her day!!

Way to lead us on! I can't wait for more!

As I'm a planner, I've already started planning, and found decorations. Where did you get the water bottle labels?? I've been looking.

She's SO CUTE. I can barely take it.

Thanks for sharing. She sure is adorable! It is fun to hear about everything and yes, I know how it is having to drag the family down to see everyone. You love it but it sure wears you down! I love that she has on your dress. What would we do without these girls. I never told you a funny story-right after we had our babies, I guess my m-i-l was blog hopping and read your blog and labor story and she was like "holy cow, did you read that girl's labor story??? poor thing!!!" and went on and on about how terrible it was. LOL

I wish I had the outfit I wore for my first birthday (assuming I have a girl). I don't know if my mom does or not. I'm glad you made it through and were able to relax on Saturday. I bet sweet memories were made!

Aw - I still feel compelled to reach through my screen and pinch those scrumptious baby cheeks.

I love the idea of taking a photo of Ella in your first birthday dress; how neat that your family hung onto the dress!

By the way, those jammies she woke up too early in (isn't that always how it goes, BTW?) are just adorable - any chance you would send me the brand when you have a sec?
