come again?

Let me start with an admission. I have a tendency to speak before I think more often than not.

Es no bueno.

Thankfully this little disorder seems to be getting better with age. Thank you sweet heavens. It doesn't happen with everybody.

I have had some of the oddest things said to me since having BG. It's something about carting a child around that makes people just flap their jaws in your directon.

I've had more people ask me "when are y'all going to have another one?" or tell me "you need a boy" (I actually only NEED food and water thanks) or pass along "you don't want them to be too spaced out" as another adage of wisdom from so many fine folks.

One lady told me once that it's a shame my child looked nothing like me but I could always hope the next one might. One lady told me I would never look good again because my baby stole all my good looks.

People are peachy aren't they?

Seriously, they will say anything.

But the best one ever...

So BG and I are perusing the purse section of TJ Maxx one day. This was probably February and I still hadn't gotten around to joining WW and was still packing a few extra poundage in the mid section area. Fun.

So we're shopping when I see this cute old lady smiling and making eyes at BG in the cart. I smile back and she comes over to us.

"How old is she?"
she asks nodding at BG.

"Ten and a half months" I said with a big 'ol smile.

Then the lady furrows her brow and looks at BG and then looks back at me like she's figuring something out.

"Ten months? Well she's such a pretty girl isn't she?" she's practically cooing at BG by this point.

Then she turns to me and puts. her. hand. on. my. poochage. and says "and another one on the way so soon?".

I was floored. But thankfully my mouth can always be counted on so I spit out "oh no. That's just the bits and pieces this one left behind".

And with that, I had to move on because I was mortified.

I also came home and signed up for WW. The truth comes out.

Oh my word - I think that I'd run her over with that shopping cart!

Love the reply about the bits and pieces. I'm going to have to borrow that, ok? Thanks :)

Oh. My. Word!!!!! I cannot believe some of the things people have said to you!! You are so quick witted to come up with something like that to say back to her. Ha! I'd probably just start crying.

WHAT?!?!? What is WRONG with people?! I am speechless.

I can't believe someone would have the nerve to say that to you! What are people thinking? I love your response it was perfect!

That's the worst feeling, isn't it? I got asked the same thing (without my child with me) when I was shopping in PBK for a shower gift. Ugh, felt like I had been punched in the stomach...and had a good cry afterwards ;-)

I'm brand new to your blog but love your posts already. You are so funny and your family is adorable! I swear I have heard stories of strangers saying/doing things like that, but that's crazy.

I wouldn't know what to do if I was in the same situation. It seems like old ladies are the worst. My 91 year old Grannie however, tends to forget that we are in a whole new generation, so when she asks me how much weight I have gained this pregnancy, (I usually fib), she then replies "Well you know, I only gained 12 lbs and my Dr said it was perfectly fine not to gain any"

To that I usually just smile and hold back what I really want to say, but at least she's family. Strangers are a whole other story!

Some people really have no filter! It amazes me some of the things people have said to me in our journey to have a baby. Good for you for being so quick with the comebacks! :)

this happened to me just last week! Except without the touching part! I was walking through the lobby or where I work and a man asked me "boy or girl" I was SO mortified that I just kept walking! I've lost most of my baby weight except through my stomach, but wow, that was awful to deal with!

Oh. My. Gosh! What is wrong with people?!?

The first time I had a stranger reach for my belly to touch it I remembered some advice someone gave me to return the favor. I'm sure that would stop them from reaching out and touching a stranger!

Love your response though; I think a bunch of us are going to need to borrow it...

Ahh, you are a much nicer person than me if that's all you said!
My sister-in-law told me when I was 9 months pregnant that I would never lose the baby weight. Who tells that to a person who is at their heaviest weight ever???

OMG. You are to be commended for not beaning her with your diaper bag, as I likely would have. Most of the time I love that my babe seems to encourage people to talk to me, but that is *most* of the time. Seesh.

You seriously look great! Not preggers looking. And people can be such Aholes! You are totally right. They see a baby and think they have complete reign to say and do whatever. Oh the crazies. And you know they are 10 times worse in our town than others! :)

When I was really pregnant with Maddie I was in Target with the other 3 kids, and some lady asked me if they were all mine.

WTF? Why would that be a valid querstion?

People are stupid. UGH.

People are SO lovely, aren't they?

I had a similar experience at the grocery store! WHEW people are NUTs but you know she is probably still thinking about how terrible it was that she said that! and I doubt she will ever make that mistake again! ha
