afternoon.

The weather legitimately cannot make up it's mind what it wants to do down here.

Most mornings we wake up to quite the chill and by noon it's 80 degrees and you're stripping out of all the clothes you just put on that morning.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to dress a kid to go to school in 30 degree weather and come home in 80?

Not fun.

And I'm posting about the weather. Also not fun.

The heat though has been a great reason to get up and get outside. And Baby Girl? loves her some outside time.

There have been after dinner walks in the wagon. There have been rock hunts. We've been out picking flowers. And lately, we've been blowing a lot of bubbles.

Sound super fun? Well it should.
IMG_0771IMG_0772IMG_0773IMG_0774

We actually have bubble machines all over the place and I'm tempted to go buy more just because of the pure delight Baby Girl gets out of them. She squeals, she laughs, she chases them. I hear "look Mama! Big one!!" over and over and since I aim to please, I keep blowing them.

It's pretty awesome.

We've actually moved our wind down time in the evenings to the front porch. Sometimes just her and I, sometimes the three of us. It's perfect.

It's cheap entertainment and the perfect reason to slow it down some.

I'll take this wonky weather if it keeps bringing me these slow, sticky, hot afternoons with my girl. These are perfection.

a very fairy birthday part 3: the family

Okay, last birthday post. I think I have officially dragged it out enough and must come to terms that it is over and she is two. Le sigh.... To catch up, you can find parts one and two here and here.

None of our family currently live very close to us. Mr. P's family is about 3 1/2 hours away, my parents are a good 10 hours away, and I have aunts in Savannah and Texas and my Papa is in Savannah, so everyone had quite the drive to get to us. But because they love us (her), most of them managed to make the trip to share in her special day.

My aunt and granddad actually came up on Friday and were a HUGE help to me. We were able to run most of the last minute errands (grocery store and such) that afternoon and then all have dinner together that night. They also were back up early the next morning to come help us set up. My aunt hit the kitchen while my poor Papa got stuck fluffing poms.

My parents ended up leaving late Friday afternoon and drove through the night to get here. After a nap Saturday morning, they got up to help as well. Dad manned the stove and helped us set up outside while Mom finished up with last minute decorations and helped set up.

There is no way I would have gotten everything done without all of their help. And Mr. P. But he's a given.

BG was beyond excited to see all of her family there. It is not very often that they are all in once place and she just ran from person to person soaking it all in.

After everyone left, we let BG sit down and open her presents from family. She loved putting on quite the show for everyone. She's nothing if not a ham!

As I've said a million times, it was such a good day.

two year well check? check

AT BG's one year well check I was pretty stoked to head up to the doc and hear all about how well she was doing and where we were development wise. We didn't spend a lot of time with her doc at that point as she was healthy as a horse so the only time I got updates on her health wise was at well checks.

This year? couldn't be further from that.

My hope from her two year well check is that we would leave with a "your child is healthy and everything looks great". Being as how we were at the doctor just two weeks before for yet another round of her coughing and breathing, I thought that was a long shot.

13

Well.. my child is healthy and everything looks great.

Thank you Tom Cruise.

Not. Whatever.

She was well above where they say she should be developmentally. In fact, the doctor had no sooner asked if she was putting two and three word phrases together when BG got his attention and asked him if he "See? See that elephant right there? Up in the sky. See?". Sure enough, she found the elephant on the border at the top of the wall. He skipped the rest of his speech questions.

She was just over 35 inches tall and weighed 34.8 pounds. She is a big girl. He does want her to chill out on the weight gain, but y'all, she's gotten so picky about eating. So I have no clue how I'm supposed to help her there? She only drinks one glass of milk a day and water the rest. There are minimal snacks and she prefers fruits and veggies to everything else. I'm at a loss. Oh well.

Her ears looked great for the first time in a sweet forever. Her ENT confirmed that at her appointment on Tuesday. Those tubes are doing their jobs finally.

Her umbilical hernia is still there but is still not causing any issues so we're going to continue to leave it alone for now.

He is concerned about her right eye which we've noticed "wandering" for a while now. She has a recheck appointment with her opthalmologist this summer, so we'll have that checked then.

The newest combination of Singulair and an inhaler seem to be keeping her breathing issues at bay which means everyone is this house is sleeping again. Praise God. That was awful.

All in all, she's doing great. She spent the whole time waiting on the doctor narrating what everyone else was doing. It's not embarrassing at all when your two year old tells the crying baby next to you "stop it baby" over and over and can't figure out "why won't baby stop Mommy?". So that part was fun.

That kid cracks me up. And? we get a break from the doctor til she's three! Well, fingers crossed.

am i normal?

Last week, BG and I met a friend for lunch and some play time at Chick-fil-a.

*Side note, I may be the only person on the planet not in live with Chick-fil-a. It's good and all, but I really go for the awesome children's play place. Why can't that sucker be at Five Guys?!

Anyway, after we ate, we walked over to the play area to let the girls play for a while. There were actually two other ladies already in there with their kiddos and it didn't take us long to strike up a conversation.

These ladies were about my age, stay at home Moms who were ridiculously nice and I really liked talking too (plus, I walked away with email addresses. That's the Mom version of getting a number at a bar. Score!). The conversation was easy, the laughs were often, and other than the occasional pause to holler at children, there were not silences at all.

It was great.

Eventually one of them said something about leaving their kids. No, not at CFA, but for the night. And y'all, I was the only one of the four that had been away from her child for more than one night. Did I mention BG was the youngest one of the four?

"Oh, I just can't be away from him that long".

"I've never left her but that one night. She even went on our anniversary trip".

Hold the phone.

Now I love my child. I adore her. I pretty much think the sun rises out of her backside, but would I leave her for an anniversary weekend with my husband?

Absolutely.

An anniversary week? Well, probably not, but baby steps folks.

I found myself feeling guilty for my girl's trip weekend, which guys, I've only been away from her for two nights so I'm not exactly too far from them, but the point is, I would leave her. If need be.

If a girl's trip comes up, I'm there. If my husband springs for a couple nights out of town, I'm so there. If someone shows up and offers me a night all to myself in a hotel, I am SO there.

Am I normal? Because while I think my child is the coolest thing since sliced bread, I also know it does us both some good to have some time away from each other.

I wasn't always like that though. I wouldn't even leave her for dinner. It was bad. But then I realized that I was quickly losing the ability to even see M anymore and was only seeing BG's Mom. And as much as I love that title, I've been pretty fond of M for years now and would like to keep her around.

So now, occasionally, I'm okay with slipping away. It does us both good. It gives us a break when we're both on each others last nerve. And usually, the time away makes the reunion so much sweeter.

If I'm not normal, that's okay. I don't judge those ladies at all and I actually have to admire them for never needing to sneak away for a break. But this girl? Sometimes this girl needs a dang break. And if that's not normal, well, I'm completely okay with that.

a very fairy birthday part 2: birthday girl and friends

When it came time for Baby Girl's first birthday party, I decided to hold it back down in Savannah. We had been in SC for about six months and had yet to build any great relationships while here and I knew that our closest friends and most family would be easier to celebrate with back there.

After the party, I told Mr. P that for sure we would hold her second birthday party at home. In South Carolina. Though I was a bit afraid at that time of what our life would look like and if things would be any different relationship wise.

Well, I should've known I had nothing to worry about.

We love where we live. And no doubt, one of the main reasons is because of the people we surround ourselves with. Y'all, we have amazing friends.
IMG_0270IMG_0287IMG_0312IMG_0318

BG's two little buddies from school (her favorite little people on the planet) were able to come and BG was thrilled. She took off running for them both when they showed up. Those three are going to give us trouble one day but right now, they're just plain adorable.
IMG_0332IMG_0465IMG_0335IMG_0336

Playing a game of chase. Love them.

My best friend brought her two little kiddos all the way up from Savannah. My other best friend came up from Athens for the day. They love my little one.
IMG_0560IMG_0552IMG_0549

One of my favorite ladies, Anne, brought her sweet boy by. BG loves Mac. She asked for him for days afterwards. Think she might have a crush?
IMG_0442IMG_0438

Our neighbor brought her little girl on over too. BG loves this girl.
IMG_0425IMG_0524

I am so thankful for these ladies and their families. I'm thankful for the new friendships I've made here. I'm thankful that my past relationships are still so great. Most of all, I'm thankful that these wonderful people adore my daughter and that their awesome children are her friends.

The day was perfect.
